Clutch Changes

See full size imageAs with most other areas on today's vehicle's engineers have been redeveloping the clutch system, the need to change has been driven by the introduction of performance diesel engines and the need to control the engagement of drive through the clutch system in a smooth way. Effectively they have introduced a big spring in the system and a second flywheel calling it a dual mass flywheel. Over the last couple of years we have been seeing more vehicles fitted with dual mass flywheels and when it comes to fitting a new clutch we have also found that the flywheel needs renewing. Whereas the conventional flywheel would last the life of the vehicle this is not true of a dual mass flywheel and if not replaced a faulty dual mass flywheel can result in a total loss of drive resulting in damage to the rest of the clutch system.
